Majorettes are girls or young women who wear majorette costumes and do choreographed dance or movement as part of a synchronized group.

They mainly do baton twirling and are associated with marching bands during parades.

Its origins started in the early 1900s from girls’ involvement in drill and gymnastic teams. Majorettes can also twirl knives, flags and other items.  It is considered a team sport and needs plenty of practice and discipline to be able to perform as a well synchronized team.
